How to look glowing on New Year’s Eve (and day)

· · Comments

The week of all excesses is kicking off! For the next 5 days most of us will indulge in too much food, too many drinks, excessively rich and/or sweet treats. This creates the perfect storm for your skin to get a bit blotchy, break-out or simply lose its glow. Luckily a solid routine can help you counterbalance the impact of the overindulgences, so here are 5 tips to still look glowing by New Year’s Eve.

1 - Drink water

An obvious one, but easily forgotten. With many more attractive options such as champagne, mulled wine, hot chocolate and eggnog, your glass of water can be a bit under used. Make sure to try and drink at least 6 big glasses of water a day during the festive period. It will help your body filter out the excess, it will slightly cut your appetite so you don’t get tempted by a third serving of cheese and it will keep your skin plump.

2 – Exfoliate

Make sure to exfoliate regularly to cleanse your pores and keep your skin glowing. During the festive period, while the weather outside is frightful, most of us are spending a lot of time inside. In order to get rid of the sweat and interior pollution layers (candles, ovens on, chimneys, etc.) use a gentle chemical exfoliator like Neogen Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine to get the gunk out before getting the goodness in (see point 3).

3 – Use a mask (or two!)

On New Year’s Eve morning, after exfoliating, apply a vitamin C mask like Dr.Jart Rubber Mask Bright Lover to give your face a brightening boost. The vitamin C will help your skin glow by reducing any pigmentation and tackling uneven skin issues, leaving you with a fresh face resembling more like you just went on a crisp winter morning walk.

On the morning after, gently wash your face, drink a big glass of water, a cup of coffee and apply a hydrating mask like Benton Snail Bee High Content Mask. It will help your skin recover faster from the excess of the night before.

4 – Double cleanse your face every single day

Double cleansing is known to be a great way to keep your skin clear, yet most people may wonder how to find the time or the energy to do it every evening. We hear you! The festive season is the perfect occasion to adopt this new routine, life gets slower, work is less busy or you may even be on vacation which will give you the extra five minutes you need to double cleanse. Start with a rich oil cleanser like Hada Labo Goku-Jyun Cleansing Oil which will remove all your makeup and follow with a gentle calming water-based face wash like Neogen Real Flower Cleansing Water Rose.

5 – Do not forget to apply sunscreen!

Last but not least, do not skip the UV protection. The temperatures may be dropping and daylight only lasts about 5 minutes, but UV's are still there! Opt for a hydrating sunscreen which will create a protective layer against the sun, the cold and the wind. Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50+ is a great option for all skin types, it will keep your skin hydrated while still providing good protection.

Follow these tips and you will be glowing on New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and the whole of 2019. The Yuuka House team wishes you a very happy Holiday Season with your loved ones!
